Common Questions

  • Not at all! Our circle welcomes everyone, regardless of writing experience. This isn't about crafting perfect poems – it's about using poetry as a gentle way to explore and express ourselves. Many of our regular participants had never written poetry before joining.

  • Each 60-minute session follows a gentle flow:

    • We begin with a brief centering practice

    • Together we read and reflect on a carefully chosen poem

    • You'll receive optional writing prompts for personal exploration

    • We share our thoughts and reflections (sharing is always optional)

    • We close with a final practice to carry into your month ahead

  • Absolutely not. While we create a safe and supportive space for sharing, you're always welcome to simply listen and write for yourself. Many people start by just absorbing the experience and share only when – and if – they feel ready.

  • After registering, you'll receive a welcome email with the Zoom link and a gentle reminder the day before each circle. You'll need a device with internet connection, camera, and microphone.

  • Just bring yourself, a cup of your favourite tea, a journal and pen. We provide all poetry materials and prompts. Coming with an open mind and heart is all you need.

  • While many find our circles therapeutic, this is not a therapy group. We're a supportive community using poetry for self-reflection and connection. If you're seeking therapy, we're happy to recommend qualified mental health professionals.

  • That's absolutely fine! While regular attendance helps build community, each session is designed to stand alone. Join us when you can – we're here monthly.

  • The monthly Poetry & Tea Circle is free. It's our way of creating an accessible space for like-minded people to experience the gentle power of poetry in community.

  • Sessions run from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM New Zealand Time (NZT). We chose this time to allow people to join after work and still have their evening free for family or personal time.

  • We keep our circles intimate to ensure everyone feels heard and held. While attendance varies, we typically have 6-8 people join each session.

Voices From Our Poetry Circles

  • "The monthly poetry circle has become my favorite evening of self-care. It's amazing how just one hour can create so much space for reflection and connection." - Sarah, Auckland

  • "The Poetry Circle has become my monthly anchor of calm. As a busy mum, I was hesitant to add one more thing to my schedule, but that hour of poetry and reflection actually helps me navigate the rest of the month with more grace. It's amazing how a simple poem can open up exactly what you need to hear."-Rachel, Wellington

  • "I was nervous about joining since I hadn't written/read poetry since school, but the gentle guidance and supportive atmosphere made me feel instantly welcome. There's something powerful about connecting with other women through words and sharing our stories together. Even on days when I just listen, I leave feeling more connected to myself."

    -Emma, Mebourne
